Vesak Pandal Next Door
Since small days, Vesak has been a "never to miss" season of the year. We enjoy getting together with our neighbors and go see pandals, puppet shows and worship දන්සැල්. However as everyone has grown up, busy with work and some have gone from the neighborhood, the tradition seems to be not in action at its maximum potential any more as it used to be. I've got my mid exams coming up next week and there is a whole bunch to study, so my mother said not to go see Vesak and waste time in traffic. So I was grounded during Vesak. However, every dark cloud has a silver line. Not everything seemed so bad this Vesak.
To our great surprise, this year there was a humongous pandal just next to my home. The pandal was built by Gold Star Club, Yakkala. It was such a magnificent piece of art, full of elegant designs and lights. It depicted the Ummagga Jathaka (උම්මග්ග ජාතකය). The Ummagga Jathaka tells the story of a birth of Lord Buddha in one of the previous lives, of which five hundred and fifty are recorded in the Jathakas.
The pandal will be on display till Sunday, 14th of May 2017. Come and witness the magnificent pandal at Ranweli Place, Yakkala. 😃
